Enemies, Elite Variants & Drops
Boss guides get all the attention, but the fights that actually drain your Healing Crystals are the ones on the road between them. This is the field bestiary: every Floor 1 and Floor 2 enemy, its attack pattern, which ailment it carries, and exactly what it drops — plus which mobs to farm for the materials your Smithy is waiting on.

Aggro is sticky and unkilled monsters respawn in greater numbers — field encounters compound if you ignore them.
Four Rules That Govern Every Enemy
Before the individual entries, these four systems apply to everything you will fight. Most early deaths come from misreading one of them rather than from a specific monster being unfair.
Ailment Buildup
Meter, not a coin flipEvery ailment fills a hidden buildup meter first. Nothing happens until the bar is full, so a few chip hits from a Frozen or Poisoned attack are survivable — but staying in the same damage pattern will land it. Resistance decides how many hits you can absorb.
Elite Variants
Renamed, upgraded, more valuableMost base enemies have an elite sibling with a different name, more health, an added ailment or ranged option, and a far better drop table that includes real weapons. Treat any unfamiliar name on the same body type as a threat upgrade, not a reskin.
Sticky Aggro
Running away is temporaryOnce an enemy notices you it will chase across the region, nearby hostiles can join an ongoing fight, and unkilled monsters respawn in greater numbers. Efficient clearing beats disengaging — fleeing usually just relocates the problem and stacks it.
Glow Telegraphs
Read the limbsHeavy attacks are signposted by glowing body parts — lit claws on a melee attacker, a flaring tail on a large creature. Not every attack is telegraphed, but the cues are frequent enough to build a genuine read-and-react loop with parry, dodge and Reversal Slash.
Floor 1 & Prologue Enemies
The Town of Beginnings region teaches you boars, then wolves, then kobolds, then fliers. Drop lists below are confirmed sightings, not guaranteed tables — rare weapon drops appear on a small percentage of kills.
| Enemy | Where | Threat | How It Fights | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frenzy Boar | Plains of Departure | Low | The baseline trash mob. Two or three hits kill it, and a sprinting heavy attack usually finishes one outright. Only dangerous when a herd converges while you are locked in a swing animation. | Col, Iron Chunk, Bastard Sword |
| Scarred Boar | Plains of Departure | Low-Mid | A marked-hide step up from the Frenzy Boar with noticeably more health, but far softer than the Mama Boar. Same attack set, just longer to chew through. | Col, Smooth Hide |
| Mama Boar | Plains of Departure | Mid | The first real field threat. Charge, knock-up and spinning attack on top of the standard boar kit, with a health pool that punishes greedy combos. Block and dodge deliberately instead of trading. | Col, Iron Ingot, Smooth Hide, Steel Rapier, Bronze Rod |
| Dire Wolf | Esta Road | Low (swarms) | Individually fragile — a sprinting heavy one-shots them — but they arrive as a pack and attack from behind while you are committed. This is where wide AoE Sword Skills pay for themselves. | Col, Smooth Hide, Iron Chunk |
| Roaring Wolf | Esta Road / stone bridge | Mid | The white pack leader. Its howl summons additional enemies, so it is always the correct kill priority. Ignoring it for even one extra pack is how field fights spiral. | Col, Smooth Hide |
| Kobold (Elite) | Northwest road out of Town of Beginnings | Mid | The base kobold is familiar by the time you leave town, but the elite variant applies Paralyzed. Watch the buildup meter — paralysis in a group fight is effectively a death sentence. | Col, iron-tier materials |
| Ruin Kobold Sentinel | Illfang's boss arena | Mid | Armoured mace-wielding adds Illfang summons in threes, at the start and on each lost health bar. Built to interrupt combos and stunlock you. Assign them to your partner rather than locking on yourself. | Encounter-only |
| Wind Wasp | Megalith Forest | Low | A simple flier with a small move list. Its one tell is climbing upward — that always precedes a charge. Knock it out of the air and its wings can be severed, grounding it permanently. | Col, Lustrous Carapace |
| Filthy Wasp (Elite) | Megalith Forest: North | Mid | The Wind Wasp's elite form and a genuine difficulty jump. Any attack with a purple streak or purple projectile builds Poisoned. Its drop table is one of the best early weapon sources in the game. | Col, Lustrous Carapace, Iron Ingot, Taurus Axe, Annealed Sledgehammer, Steel Sword |
| Shrewman | Within the Shadows (3 encounters) | Mini-boss | Summoned by investigating wind gusts rather than walking into an arena. Alternating two-swipe advance, an aerial flip slam, plus a double uppercut and spinning swipe on later encounters. Flees instead of dying the first two times. | Crude Weapon Fragment |
Floor 2 Savanna Enemies
Floor 2 drops the beginner-friendly pacing. Enemies hit harder, elites carry boss movesets, and the material tier jumps to Silver Ingot and Red Core. Do not walk in wearing Floor 1 gear.
| Enemy | Where | Threat | How It Fights | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rocky Cow | Dagis Highway route | Low-Mid | Icy antlers feed most of its moveset into the Frozen ailment. Health is low enough that you and a partner can delete it before buildup completes — burst it rather than duelling it. | Red Core |
| Raging Mountain Bao (Elite) | Southern Floor 2 savanna | High | An elite that borrows the Bulbous Bao boss kit: a ranged mud flick, plus rolling and bouncing charges. While inflated, stay clear entirely unless you can hit it from range. One of the best pre-labyrinth loot piñatas. | Col, Silver Ingot, Red Core, Greatsword, Grand Sledgehammer |
| Rude Ox | The Black Swordsman I arena | Mid | Appears inside the quest boss fight. Two attacks matter beyond its basic swipes: a full-arena charge and a heavy ground stomp with radial reach. Keep it separated from the primary boss. | Encounter-only |
| Minotaur-Type Guards | Floor 2 labyrinth, optional left corridor | High | Guard an optional treasure room most players skip. The chest holds crafting materials that stay relevant long past Floor 2, so the detour is worth it — but pull them apart instead of taking the room at once. | Room chest: high-tier crafting materials |
| Golden Gate Boss | Golden Gates across Floor 2 | Extreme | Not a field mob but the hardest optional content at launch. A Golden Crystal opens the gate and is consumed; the Cliffside Marvel gate spawns a giant boar around Level 60. Prepare fully before spending a crystal. | Large EXP and Col, high-quality weapons and armour with strong EX-Mods |
Golden Crystals come from treasure chests, never from side quest rewards — two sit in the Cliffside Marvel area alone, one of which needs a Blink Talisman to reach. See the items guide for the full consumable list.
Who Carries Which Ailment
Knowing an enemy's ailment before it starts swinging decides whether you block or dodge. Blocking a Frozen attack still builds the meter; dodging it does not.
| Ailment | Carried By | Visual Tell | Counterplay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frozen | Snowcap Boar, Rocky Cow | Icy breath, chilling whirlwind trails, glowing tusks and antlers | Dodge these attacks outright rather than blocking — the trail on the ground keeps applying buildup. Breaking the Snowcap Boar's tusks removes its elemental attacks entirely. |
| Burning | Glenspore Grizzly | Ember cloud, left-to-right fire breath, flaming claw combos | Fight from behind. The breath has a moderate frontal cone only, so a partner holding aggro lets you attack the rear safely for the whole fight. |
| Poisoned | Filthy Wasp | Purple streaks on melee swipes, purple projectiles | Treat every purple visual as a poison source. Knock it out of the air to cut its attack options, and carry antidotes before entering Megalith Forest: North. |
| Paralyzed | Elite Kobolds | Elite naming and a charged weapon effect on the base kobold body | Kill elites first in mixed groups. Paralysis landing mid-pack usually means eating a full combo from everything else on screen. |
| Instant Death | Cursed Shrewman line | Red projectile orbs | Never trade into these. Instant Death ignores your health pool once the meter fills, and on Death Game Mode it ends the character permanently. |
Full effect durations, stat penalties and cures are on the status ailments guide.
Which Enemy Drops What You Need
Reverse the bestiary: start from the material your Smithy upgrade is short on and go straight to the mob that drops it fastest.
Smooth Hide
Esta Road wolf packsDire Wolves die to a single sprinting heavy attack and spawn in groups, so the hide-per-minute rate beats boar hunting by a wide margin. Roaring Wolves and both tougher boars top it up.
Iron Chunk
Plains of Departure boars + Dire WolvesFrenzy Boars are the densest low-effort source. Run the road loop between the two Safe Areas and everything on it drops chunks.
Iron Ingot
Mama Boars and Filthy WaspsIngots come from the tougher tier rather than trash mobs. Filthy Wasps are the better target because the same kill can also drop a Steel Sword or Taurus Axe.
Lustrous Carapace
Megalith Forest waspsBoth wasp variants are the only reliable carapace source in the early game. Ground them first — chasing a flier wastes more stamina than the drop is worth.
Red Core / Silver Ingot
Floor 2 Rocky Cows and Raging Mountain BaoThe Floor 2 material tier. Bao elites drop Silver Ingot, Red Core and weapons at once, making them the single most efficient farm before the labyrinth.
Crude Weapon Fragment
Shrewman encounters in Within the ShadowsDropped on each of the three scripted Shrewman fights. Loot between phases — the body despawns when the quest advances.
Gathering nodes and ore routes are covered separately in the materials farming guide.
Field Habits That Save Healing Crystals
Your Healing Crystal charges only refill at Safe Areas. Everything below exists to make sure you arrive at the boss door with them intact.
- ◆Reach the Safe Area before farming. Regions start fogged. Resting at the blue pillar reveals the map and marks every treasure chest, Ark and Seal in the area, which turns a blind grind into a planned route.
- ◆Kill summoners before damage dealers. Roaring Wolves and any howling enemy convert a manageable fight into an ambush. Elite variants are the second priority; base mobs come last.
- ◆Watch the minimap for yellow markers. Partners fight enemies on their own while you are busy. Yellow minimap markers are loot on the ground — easy to walk past when your companion killed something off-screen.
- ◆Use a sprinting heavy on trash. Frenzy Boars and Dire Wolves both die to one sprinting heavy attack. Using Sword Skills on them wastes SP you will want for the elite standing behind them.
- ◆Ground fliers immediately. Wasps can be knocked out of the air and lose their wings. A grounded wasp has no charge attack and becomes a stationary target.
- ◆Do not let monsters accumulate. Undefeated monsters respawn in greater and greater numbers. Clearing a route properly once is cheaper than running the same road three times against a growing crowd.
Take the Bestiary Into a Boss Room
Field enemies teach the mechanics that bosses then weaponise: ailment buildup, break markers, sticky aggro and partner aggro control. These guides pick up where the road ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do status ailments work on enemies?
Ailments are not applied on hit. Each hit adds to a hidden buildup meter near the bottom of the screen, and the effect only triggers once the meter fills. Resistant targets absorb a lot of buildup; low-resistance targets get afflicted almost instantly. The same system runs against you, so armour resistance matters as much as raw defence.
What makes an elite variant different?
Elites get their own name — Filthy Wasp, Raging Mountain Bao, Mama Boar — plus more health, an added ailment or ranged attack, and a much richer drop table that includes real weapons rather than just Col and hide. An unfamiliar name on a familiar body is a threat upgrade, not a reskin.
Which enemies drop Smooth Hide?
Mama Boars, Scarred Boars, Dire Wolves and Roaring Wolves. The Esta Road wolf packs are the fastest loop because Dire Wolves die to a single sprinting heavy attack and spawn in groups.
How do I stop wolves summoning more wolves?
Kill the white Roaring Wolf first — its howl is what pulls in reinforcements. Aggro is sticky in Aincrad, so anything that has noticed you will keep chasing; leaving the pack leader alive is how a small fight turns into a crowd.
Can I ground flying enemies?
Yes. Wasps can be knocked out of the air and have their wings severed, which grounds them for the rest of the fight and removes their dive charge. They telegraph that charge by climbing first.
What is the hardest non-boss enemy right now?
Golden Gate encounters on Floor 2. Opening a gate consumes a Golden Crystal and spawns a boss-tier enemy — the Cliffside Marvel gate has a giant boar around Level 60 — but the payout is large EXP and Col plus high-quality gear carrying strong EX-Mods.
