Climb Guide

Aincrad spans 100 floors. This walkthrough covers the prologue and the two complete floors available at launch.

How Progression Works

Prologue

A 7-boss scripted intro that doubles as the tutorial. It ends with a fight you cannot walk away from once it starts — manage stamina and SP throughout.

Floors

Each floor ends in a Floor Boss (story climax) and hides a separate Labyrinth Guardian. Clear both to fully conquer a floor and unlock the path up.

Cardinal Rank

Main quests raise your Cardinal Rank. Higher rank means tougher enemies but better loot and higher weapon upgrade tiers at the Smithy.

Prologue Boss Order

The prologue runs you from character creation straight into a chain of story bosses. Each is a checkpoint in your run toward the floors of Aincrad. The full per-boss breakdown lives on our Prologue Boss Guide.

1. Sentry Golem2. Illfang the Kobold Lord3. Snowcap Boar4. Glenspore Grizzly (I)5. Dire Stife Wolf6. Glenspore Grizzly (II)7. Wrathful Shreman
Floor 1Plains & Town of Beginnings

Floor Boss

Illfang the Kobold Lord

Story climax of Floor 1.

Labyrinth Guardian

Sentry Golem

Gates full Floor 1 completion.

  • ·Complete character creation, then treat the prologue as a tutorial — it mirrors a closed beta and teaches parry, dodge, and Sword Skills.
  • ·Rest at every Safe Area to refill Healing Crystals before crossing a boss door. You cannot leave once the fight starts.
  • ·Clear Illfang the Kobold Lord (Floor Boss) to advance the story, then return to the labyrinth for the Sentry Golem (Guardian) to fully clear Floor 1.
  • ·Spend Growth Points at the inn and upgrade your weapon at the Smithy before pushing upward.
Floor 2Savanna & Labyrinth

Floor Boss

Asterius the Taurus King

Unlocks access to Floor 3.

Hub Town

Horunka

Reached via the 'Beaten to the Punch' quest.

  • ·After the 'Beaten to the Punch' main quest, warp to the main terminal and travel north toward Horunka — the map boundaries force a north-then-east route, not a straight line.
  • ·Asterius the Taurus King has three phases. In phase two, bait his charge into a stone pillar to stun him, then unleash synchronized partner attacks.
  • ·Floor 2 completion rewards large Col, rare crafting materials, weapon blueprints, and access to Floor 3.
  • ·Raising Cardinal Rank (via main quests) unlocks higher weapon upgrade tiers — keep your gear synchronized with enemy scaling.

Walkthrough Habits That Save Runs

Route Through Safe Areas

Safe Areas fully restore Healing Crystals and act as checkpoints. Touch the blue beam on your map often — never enter a boss door at less than full supplies.

Manage Two Meters

Stamina fuels dodges, guards, and sprinting; SP fuels Sword Skills. Keep a one-third reserve of each so you can always react to a dangerous swing.

Sync Cardinal Rank & Gear

Enemies scale as you explore. After each main quest, return to town, spend Growth Points, and upgrade weapons at the Smithy before resuming — don't let your gear fall behind.

Use One Partner

Each quest brings one AI partner. Switch Mode splits aggro so you heal or reposition; Free Mode stacks burst damage. Pick the partner whose kit matches the boss.

Break Defenses First

Watch the Fragility Gauge. Heavy attacks and blunt weapons (Mace, Axe) shatter it fast, opening enemies to massive damage. Save your strongest Sword Skills for that window.

Explore the Labyrinth

Every floor hides a separate Labyrinth Guardian behind optional treasure rooms. Clearing it fully completes the floor and often yields rare blueprints.

Stuck on Asterius the Taurus King?

Our Boss Guide breaks down every Floor Boss and Labyrinth Guardian — parry timing, charged-heavy windows, and partner-synergy setups for each phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I explore floors freely, or only on quests?

Exploration is gated by quest boundaries. You accept a quest in town, then explore the assigned region — wandering off the path triggers a soft boundary that routes you back. Safe Areas and Treasure Rooms are the main off-path rewards.

What carries over from the demo to the full game?

Demo progress carries over automatically on the same platform. Finishing the demo unlocks mission replay, which lets you upgrade weapons and level up to the demo cap before the full climb begins.

What comes after the main story?

After the credits, post-game content opens — including randomized Warped Dungeons that grant permanent base-stat buffs. Our Warped Dungeons guide covers the loop that prepares you for the hardest fights.
