Materials Farming Guide

Where to farm every upgrade material in Echoes of Aincrad — Tempered Steel, Black Iron Ore, Gold Crystals, and the early drop loops that keep your Smithy supplied. Good equipment wins fights long before skill does, and materials are the real bottleneck.

Every enhancement tier demands more materials. Efficient farming routes are the difference between a +10 weapon and an empty pouch.

Every Upgrade Material & Where It Comes From

Six material groups drive the entire upgrade economy. Each entry lists its role, its sources, and the fastest farming approach.

Tempered Steel

Core weapon enhancement (+1 to +6)

Sources: Overworld treasure chests, dungeon chests, elite enemy drops, side quest rewards

Fastest route: Loot every chest off the main roads; stack side quests — many pay Tempered Steel x1 each

High-Grade Tempered Steel

High-tier enhancement (+7 to +10)

Sources: Mid-game enemies from around Floor 5, high-tier dungeon chests, Smithy synthesis

Fastest route: Push Cardinal Rank first — higher rank unlocks the enemies and chests that drop it

Black Iron Ore

Mid-tier armor and weapon blueprints

Sources: Mining nodes: Black Iron Palace outskirts, Floor 1 Mining Site, hidden waterfall cave, Floor 2 mountain ridge

Fastest route: Run the Mining Site loop, then fast travel and reset; bring a partner to hold aggro while you mine

Gold Crystals

Golden Gates and Exceed-tier upgrades

Sources: Floor bosses, golden chests, Golden Gem-Bugs in dark dungeons

Fastest route: Chase Gem-Bugs with gap-closers or ranged skills before they burrow — 1–3 crystals guaranteed per kill

Wolf Fangs & Animal Hides

Early crafting and vendor profit

Sources: Grasslands wolves outside the Town of Beginnings

Fastest route: Pull packs with wide-arc weapons, loop from the checkpoint; sell surplus in bulk back in town

Quest-Reward Materials

Flame Stones, Mines, Might Crystals and more

Sources: Side quests across every region

Fastest route: Accept every compatible quest before leaving town so one farming trip pays out multiple rewards

Floor 1 Farming Spots Ranked

Floor 1 is bigger than its tutorial reputation suggests. These four locations cover ore nodes and drop loops — start with the safest and graduate to the Mining Site once you have a partner to hold aggro.

AreaDifficultyYieldNotes
Black Iron Palace OutskirtsEasyMediumNodes hidden in the northern rock formations most players sprint past. Safest opening route — start every session here.
Mining Site LandmarkMediumHighThe best early farm: multiple deposits close together, quick full-clear loops. Monsters guard the nodes — bring a partner to draw aggro.
Hidden Waterfall CaveEasyMediumUnlocked via optional quests. Quiet, safe nodes tucked behind the waterfall — ideal when you only need a few more ore.
Grasslands Wolf RouteEasyDropsNot a mining spot but the best drop loop: Col, Wolf Fangs, Animal Hides, and XP from constant wolf spawns near the main gate.

Floor 2: The Mountain Ridge Loop

Once Asterius falls and Floor 2 opens up, stop grinding Floor 1. The western mountain paths above the savanna hold ore deposits along cliff edges and rocky ledges at a far higher frequency, with teleport points positioned for tight farming loops:

  1. Mine every visible node along the ridge — deposits cluster near cliff edges.
  2. Fast travel back to the nearest checkpoint before backtracking on foot.
  3. Offload into your Chest if the pouch is full — restock consumables at the Main Terminal at the same time.
  4. Return once the area refreshes and repeat. Rockier terrain means richer veins than anything on Floor 1.

Spotlight: Farming Gold Crystals

Gold Crystals open Golden Gates and feed the highest upgrade tiers — and they are the rarest currency in the loop. Beyond boss kills and golden chests, one farm stands out:

Golden Gem-Bugs

These rare, non-hostile creatures spawn in place of normal enemies in dark dungeon environments. They flee the moment you approach and despawn if they burrow — but a kill guarantees 1–3 Gold Crystals. Use gap-closing dash attacks or ranged Sword Skills the instant you spot one.

Warning: if a Gem-Bug runs into a room full of elite enemies, let it go. Chasing one crystal into a pack has ended more runs than any boss — especially in Death Game Mode.

Farming Habits That Compound

Six habits that turn the same hour of play into two or three times the materials.

Stack Side Quests Before Farming

Accept every compatible quest in town first. The same monsters and routes then pay out multiple rewards per trip — quest payouts routinely include Tempered Steel, Flame Stones, and Might Crystals on top of XP.

Use Analyze While You Travel

The early-game partner skill Analyze marks treasure before you even reach a region's Safe Area. Keep it active whenever you move through a new zone so no material chest goes unnoticed.

Mine With a Bodyguard

Mining animations can be interrupted by enemy hits. Bring a partner in Switch Mode to hold aggro at the Mining Site and other guarded nodes so your gathering never gets cancelled mid-swing.

Fast Travel Resets Are Your Loop

Warp to a checkpoint, clear every node or pack, warp out, and return once the area refreshes. Short, repeatable loops beat long wandering sessions for materials per hour.

Difficulty Raises the Payout

Higher difficulty settings increase enemy drops. If your build is comfortable, bumping difficulty up one notch turns the same farming loop into a noticeably richer one.

Sell in Bulk, Never Sell Rare

Stack common drops and sell them in one trip for a satisfying Col spike — but keep every Tempered Steel, High-Grade Steel, and Gold Crystal. Enhancement costs escalate sharply from +4 onward.

Materials Farming FAQ

How do I get Tempered Steel?

Overworld treasure chests, dungeon runs, and side quest rewards. Explore off the main roads and clear side content — it is the main enhancement bottleneck.

Where do I mine Black Iron Ore?

Floor 1: Black Iron Palace outskirts, the Mining Site landmark, and the hidden waterfall cave. Floor 2: the western mountain ridge with its teleport-loop deposits.

What is the fastest Gold Crystal farm?

Kill Golden Gem-Bugs in dark dungeon areas before they burrow — each drops 1–3 crystals guaranteed. Otherwise they come from floor bosses and golden chests.

Should I sell my crafting materials?

Sell common drops in bulk; never sell rare upgrade materials. Enhancement demand rises steeply from +4 onward and rare steel is expensive to replace.
