Echoes of Aincrad — Floor 2 Boss Guide

Floor 2 is where Aincrad stops holding your hand. The savanna floor centered on the city of Urbus ends in the Lapis Pyramid, home to Asterius the Taurus King — the double-axe Floor Boss whose three-phase raid decides whether you actually learned the combat system. Here is the full dungeon route, the pillar-bait trick that trivializes his charge, and how to prep before the doors close behind you.

Echoes of Aincrad Floor 2 savanna and Lapis Pyramid
Floor 2 · Savanna

Floor 2 is a savanna realm of plains and boulders. Urbus is the hub; the Lapis Pyramid holds the boss room.

Floor 2 at a Glance

Floor 2 is a savanna floor of open plains and rocky canyons, roughly the same size as Floor 1 but far less forgiving. Its main hub is Urbus, a city built into a flat-topped mountain crater. Nearby sit the rival villages Marome (red) and Taran (blue), locked in an endless war, watched over by the hovering Dome of Light. The floor's dungeon is the Lapis Pyramid, a lapis-lazuli structure full of deadly puzzles and destructible walls that leads down to the boss room.

Floor 2 Boss Roster

Bullbous Bow

Field Boss

An optional open-field boss roaming the savanna. Beating it is not required to clear the floor, but it drops early upgrade materials worth farming before the pyramid.

Nato the Colonel Taurus

Mid-Boss

Uses Numbing Impact, a paralysing skill. Its horns are the weak point — hits there greatly raise your stagger chance. Take it down before it strings paralysis together.

Baran the General Taurus

Mid-Boss

Wields a golden battle hammer and casts Numbing Detonation — twice the range of Nato's skill, stunning for ~3 seconds and turning into full paralysis on a second consecutive hit. Near death it enters a frenzy and spams it. Break the horns to interrupt.

Asterius the Taurus King

Floor Boss

The Floor 2 Floor Boss. A huge minotaur wielding a double-headed axe that sweeps across most of the arena. Three phases, a pillar-based stun opening, and a burning-ground final phase. Clearing him unlocks Floor 3.

Asterius the Taurus King — Phase Strategy

Asterius looks overwhelming — a giant swinging a double-headed axe across the whole arena — but every phase has a clean answer. Learn the three rhythms below and the fight turns from a wall into one of the most satisfying early bosses in the game.

Phase 1100% – 70% HPRead, Don't Panic-Dodge

Asterius attacks slowly with long, readable wind-ups. The instinct is to dodge constantly — don't. Wait for his attack indicator to appear before moving, which conserves stamina and opens counter windows. After a heavy slam, land a quick combo, then retreat. If you run sword-and-shield, parry his horizontal swings to fully stagger him — those stagger windows should account for most of your Phase 1 damage.

Phase 2~70% – 30% HPBait the Charge Into a Pillar

Around 70% health everything speeds up and Asterius adds devastating charge attacks. The arena's large stone pillars are the answer: stand next to one, bait the charge, and dodge sideways at the last possible second so he crashes into the pillar and stuns himself. This is the ideal moment to trigger synchronized partner attacks for a massive chunk of his health bar.

Phase 3Final 30% HPPatience Beats Greed

The final third changes the rhythm — burning ground effects spread across the arena and Asterius chains together much longer attack combinations. Greed kills most attempts here. Forget extended combos: land one powerful Sword Skill, back away, recover stamina, and repeat. It feels slow, but it is dramatically safer and steadily whittles him down.

Before You Enter — Prep Checklist

Level 12–18

Comfortable without trivialising the fight. Under-levelled runs punish every mistake.

Sword + Shield

A single-handed sword with a shield is the safest kit — parrying reshapes Phase 1 and 2.

80% DEX / 20% VIT

Stack Dexterity for damage, keep just enough Vitality to survive a mistake. Faster kills mean fewer errors.

Upgraded armor

Swap out starter gear — Leather Shirt, Iron Bangle, Bronze Boots, and a Round Shield noticeably cut incoming damage.

Craft explosives

Some pyramid walls only break with crafted explosives. Materials are common on the savanna — carry several.

Defensive partner AI

Set your companion to a defensive role for the boss so they draw aggro and enable Switch openings.

Lapis Pyramid — Route to the Boss

The pyramid pushes you to think vertically — hidden passages, destructible walls, and elevation changes make it trickier than Floor 1. Take it one enemy group at a time and use the final checkpoint before the doors.

1Explore the savanna around Urbus first — farm crafting materials, clear optional treasure rooms, and pick up gear upgrades before committing to the dungeon.
2Enter the Lapis Pyramid. Separate enemy packs instead of pulling whole rooms; the beast and scavenger types here hit harder than Floor 1 enemies.
3At the first major intersection, clear the optional left corridor. Its Minotaur-like guards protect a chest with materials that stay useful well past Floor 2, then return and take the right route.
4Use crafted explosives on the special destructible walls — they open mandatory passages and reveal shortcuts that skip large enemy packs and save healing items.
5Reach the glowing checkpoint near the upper levels. Fully heal, confirm your Sword Skills are equipped, and switch your partner AI to defensive before opening the boss doors.

Biggest Mistakes to Avoid

  • Burning all your stamina while attacking — leaves you unable to dodge the next hit.
  • Ignoring optional treasure rooms — you skip materials and upgrades that make the fight easier.
  • Entering with outdated starter armor instead of upgraded gear.
  • Forgetting to craft explosives — you get stuck at destructible walls.
  • Running partner AI aggressively instead of defensively during the boss.
  • Wasting SP on ordinary enemies before you reach the boss room.
