Echoes of Aincrad — How to Cross Barriers

Aincrad hides treasure, side paths, and sealed areas behind barriers that check whether you came prepared. Here is every barrier type, the exact item that clears it, and the step-by-step Blink Talisman trick that crosses the chasms a plain jump never can.

Traversal & Items

Chasms, brambles, rock piles, vine walls, and Golden Gates all block progress until you bring the right item.

The Five Barrier Types

Vine Walls

Vine walls separate rooms inside dungeons. Slash through the entire bottom half to give yourself and your partner room to move through.

Solve: Cut them down with your weapon.

Item: Your weapon (no item needed)

Brambles / Thorn Walls

Coated in oil, brambles usually block a small area with an extra treasure chest behind them. A flame item clears the path and the loot.

Solve: Burn them with a Flame Stone.

Item: Flame Stone / Flame Mine

Rock Piles

Rock piles block routes that lead to treasure chests or alternate map paths. Throw the bomb directly at the pile or place a mine in front of it.

Solve: Blow them up with a Bomb Stone or Mine.

Item: Bomb Stone / Mine

Chasms

Chasms sit where two paths intersect or guard a treasure chest just out of reach. A normal jump falls short — you need the Blink Talisman's teleport to cross.

Solve: Blink Talisman + jump + midair dodge.

Item: Blink Talisman

Seals / Golden Gates

Golden Gates are sealed doors that hide optional areas and rewards. A Gold Crystal unlocks them on contact.

Solve: Open them with a Gold Crystal.

Item: Gold Crystal

Blink Talisman — Crossing a Chasm

The Blink Talisman turns your dodge into a short teleport. It costs 500 Col, you can carry up to five, and its effect lasts 30 seconds — long enough for one crossing. The catch: the game never shows a dedicated button. You activate the item, then use your normal dodge input in midair. Most players think the gap is broken until they learn the input.

1Walk to the edge of the gap and wait for the prompt: “The light of a Blink Talisman lingers. You may be able to cross by using its powers and jumping.” Glowing yellow particles mark valid crossing points.
2Open the quick-use item menu (bottom-left of the screen) and select the Blink Talisman. A rainbow energy wave rings out and yellow sparkles confirm the effect is live for 30 seconds.
3Run toward the edge and jump. Do not stop — a plain jump alone drops you into the water below.
4While airborne and moving toward the far ledge, dodge forward. The dodge converts into a blink and teleports you cleanly across.

The Talisman Trio

Ver.1.0.3's free Support Item Set grants 10 each of the Spark, Blink, and Luminous Talismans (plus High Bomb/Flame Stones and Numbing Mines) from the Inn chest after "Iori's Request." The three talismans cover the trickiest traversal situations.

Blink Talisman

Changes your evasion into a 30-second teleport you can trigger even in midair — the only way to clear chasms like the one in the Violet Fencer quest or the route to Teardrop Cave.

Luminous Talisman

Lights up dark caves and sealed underground areas so you can read the map and spot treasure. Always carry one before descending into unlit dungeon sections.

Spark Talisman

A utility talisman bundled in the free Ver.1.0.3 Support Item Set. Keep a few on hand for hazard-heavy routes where a quick burst trigger helps you through.

What to Always Keep in Your Pouch

  • Blink Talisman — for every chasm and out-of-reach chest.
  • Luminous Talisman — for any dark cave or sealed underground area.
  • Flame Stones / Flame Mines — for brambles blocking bonus loot.
  • Bomb Stones / Mines — for rock piles guarding side paths.
  • Gold Crystal — for Golden Gates you do not want to leave sealed.

New regions almost always hold a treasure chest, landmark, or sealed area just off the main road. Drop map waypoints and clear every barrier before moving on — the loot and materials fund your next Smithy upgrade.

Planning Your Climb?

Barriers gate the best loot — but the Smithy turns that loot into power. Know what to gather and where to spend it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cross a chasm without a Blink Talisman?

No. A plain running jump always falls short of the far ledge. The chasm is specifically a Blink Talisman puzzle — buy extras before quest routes like the Violet Fencer quest or the path to Teardrop Cave.

What if I run out of Blink Talismans mid-crossing?

Falling short returns you to the edge with the effect ended. Keep a few in your pouch and re-activate one each time you respawn so you can retry the jump-and-dodge rhythm.

Do barriers appear in the open world or only dungeons?

Both. Vine walls split dungeon rooms, while chasms, brambles, rock piles, and Golden Gates show up across overworld regions guarding chests and sealed side paths.

Is the Support Item Set the only free source of talismans?

It is the guaranteed free batch (10 of each), but you can also buy Blink, Luminous, and Spark Talismans from the item merchant at any time, so running out is rarely a dead end.
