Demo Guide
Everything you need to know about the Echoes of Aincrad demo — prologue walkthrough, boss strategies, exploration mechanics, Smithy upgrades, save data carry over details, and demo limitations.

The Echoes of Aincrad demo is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — save data carries over to the full game.
Demo Overview
The Echoes of Aincrad demo released on June 16, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam (as part of Steam Next Fest). It lets you play through the Beta Test chapter — a self-contained prologue that introduces the core combat, exploration, and progression systems. Save data from the demo carried over to the full game when it launched on July 9, 2026. The demo imposes a level cap of 15 and a weapon proficiency cap of 3. Reaching these caps does not lock you out of play — you can continue exploring, upgrading gear, and completing side content — but experience gains stop once you hit the ceiling.
Pro tip: Finishing the demo unlocked mission replay, which let players farm Col and materials for weapon upgrades before the full game launched on July 9, 2026.
Prologue Walkthrough — Getting Started
The prologue begins with you controlling a beta character (a preset avatar — full character creation is reserved for the release version). After a brief tutorial covering basic combat controls, you work through a linear dungeon. The early sections are straightforward: a hallway-like dungeon with scattered enemies. Your goal is to reach the end while familiarising yourself with the controls. Practice parrying on these early fodder enemies — the parry window is strict but free (no stamina cost), and mastering it early pays off against the prologue bosses. About halfway through the dungeon, you will meet Iori, who becomes your permanent party member for the remainder of the demo. From this point, the full partner system is active — you can toggle between Free Mode (aggressive) and Switch Mode (defensive) depending on your situation.

The prologue dungeon is linear but teaches core combat skills — practice parrying on early enemies before the bosses.
Exploration Mechanics — Sealing Barriers, Arks & Survey Flags
The demo introduces several exploration mechanics that carried straight into the full game. Sealing Barriers are glowing barriers that block access to new areas and cannot be removed by normal means — you must locate an Ark, a special structure that triggers a boss battle when activated. Defeating the Ark guardian removes the connected Sealing Barrier. Environmental blockers also dot the landscape: large rocks require explosive items to clear, thick vines need burning items, and wide gaps call for dodge-boost items. Survey Flags are points of interest scattered across towns and fields — interacting with them adds information to your in-game database and rewards you with progression benefits. Subquests unlock when you discover hidden clues in the world, which then become available from NPCs back in town. Magical Bridges serve as fast-travel shortcuts that unlock after specific seals are broken, letting you traverse Aincrad more efficiently.
Pro tip: Whenever you see a blocked path you cannot clear yet, make a mental note of its location. Revisiting early areas with new tools often reveals hidden chests, side paths, and collectibles.
Sentry Golem — First Boss
The Sentry Golem is a slow but powerful construct and your first real challenge. It has two main attacks: a stomp that repeats while you are close, and a wide ground sweep that can stagger you. The best strategy is to stay behind the Golem at all times — all its attacks are forward-facing. From behind, use charged heavy attacks for maximum damage. You can also parry the ground sweep and follow up with Iori's charged thrust attack for heavy burst damage. The boss is deliberately forgiving — it is designed to teach observation and positioning before the harder fights ahead.
Illfang the Kobold Lord — Second Boss
Illfang the Kobold Lord is the hardest boss in the prologue and the first true skill gate. He has two signature attacks: a 360-degree ground sweep and a charged roar that forces you into a blocking stance while summoning fodder enemies. The fight has three phases — in phases 1 and 2, Illfang summons adds that you must manage while depleting his HP. In phase 3, he stops summoning but attacks more aggressively. The critical mechanic is the finisher: after depleting Illfang's HP bar, it regenerates unless you perform a finisher by standing in front of or beside him and pressing the heavy attack button. This must be done three times to secure the kill. Save your SP and Sword Skills for phase 3, and consider using Switch Mode to let Iori draw aggro during add phases.
Pro tip: If Illfang's HP hits zero but the fight does not end, look for the heavy attack finisher prompt. Missing the three finisher windows is the most common reason players get stuck on this fight.
Smithy, Weapon Upgrades & EX-Mods
The Smithy becomes available after you reach the Town of Beginnings and is essential for surviving the harder prologue encounters. Upgrading a weapon costs Col and materials found during exploration. Beyond basic upgrades, the Smithy lets you apply EX-Mods (special enhancements) and Unique MODs that change a weapon's properties — these can improve damage, add status effects, or alter scaling. Each weapon has a proficiency level that rises with use, unlocking additional upgrade paths. The Smithy also features a synthesis system that lets you combine materials for stronger results. Since the demo caps level at 15 and proficiency at 3, progression is shallow enough to experiment with different weapon types without long-term commitment.
Save Data Carry Over — How to Transfer to the Full Game
Progress from the Echoes of Aincrad demo carried over to the full version when it launched on July 9, 2026. On PC, the save file is located at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Echoes of Aincrad — keep this file intact and do not delete it. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, progress carried over even if you deleted the demo application, as long as you kept the save data on the console storage. Note that finishing the prologue was never required to carry over your progress — you could transfer at any point. Completing the full prologue unlocked mission replay, which let you keep farming upgrades, Col, and materials right up to release. Transfer requires the Day 1 Patch (Ver.1.0.3) or newer on the full game — see the dedicated demo save transfer guide for the exact steps and platform rules.
Demo Limitations & What Changes at Launch
The demo had several intentional limitations. Level caps at 15 and weapon proficiency at 3 meant you could only explore the early progression curve. Only Iori was available as a permanent party member — the full game shipped with a full roster of partners. Character creation was locked during the demo; you played as the beta preset avatar. The demo did not include Death Game Mode, which arrived in the full release as an opt-in permadeath difficulty. The demo covered only the first floor and prologue area — the full game shipped with Floor 1 and Floor 2 of Aincrad. Weapon balance, EX-Mod values, and boss tuning in the demo also differed from the release build, and Bandai Namco has continued retuning all three through patches, most recently in Ver. 1.0.6 (September 25, 2026).
Ready for the full game?
The demo was just a taste. Full character creation, Death Game Mode, all of Aincrad's floors, and the complete partner roster arrived with the full game on July 9, 2026.
