Echoes of Aincrad True Ending

The standard ending is not the end. After the credits roll, Echoes of Aincrad opens a harder post-credits path with a new story mission and a much tougher final boss. Here is exactly how to reach the true ending — and what unlocks once you do.

Beat the main story, then keep playing — a new mission and boss lead to the true ending.

How to Unlock the True Ending

The first clear gives you the standard ending. The true ending is gated behind a post-game continuation that only appears after you finish the campaign and continue from your save — it is base-game content, not DLC.

1

Finish the Main Story

Play through to the standard ending and let the credits roll. This is the baseline clear every player gets on a first playthrough.

2

Keep Playing After the Credits

Do not turn the game off. Load your save file and continue — the post-game branch opens automatically instead of sending you back to a clean slate.

3

Take the New Story Mission

A story mission you were unable to access during the main campaign now appears. This is the gateway to the true ending path.

4

Defeat the Final Boss

The continuation ends in a significantly harder boss fight than the main-story finale. Win it and the full story is completed with the true ending.

Prepare Before the Final Boss

Guides describe the true-ending boss as a big step up from the main-story finale. Do not walk in under-leveled — spend time on these four pillars first.

Upgrade Your Equipment

Push your favorite weapon and armor as high as materials allow via the Smithy. A few extra enhancement levels and the right EX-MODs make the final boss far more forgiving.

Level Up First

The true-ending boss is a clear step up in difficulty. Spend leftover side quests and Warped Dungeon runs grinding Growth Points and Cardinal Rank before you challenge it.

Lock In a Build

Commit to one weapon type and its strongest Sword Skills. A focused, well-correction-scaled build beats a spread of half-upgraded gear every time.

Bring the Right Partner

Your companion's healing and support skills matter more here than in the main story. Keep a partner with reliable healing or a powerful Switch/Support skill in your party.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to beat the game on a specific difficulty?

No. The true ending unlocks from a normal first clear on any difficulty — you simply have to finish the main story and continue from your save.

Will I lose progress if I close the game after the credits?

Your save is safe. The post-game branch loads from your existing cleared save, so you can close and return later without losing the true-ending opportunity.

Is the true-ending boss required for trophies/achievements?

The 100% completion path (52 trophies) includes story and endgame milestones. Reaching the true ending is part of fully finishing the game, so it is worth doing on the road to the platinum.

What should I do if the final boss is too hard?

Drop back to town, push a few more levels in Warped Dungeons, upgrade your gear, and tune your build. Then return — the boss does not scale away, but your character will.
